RL-i 8" or an IDQ 10".......discuss

I searched but couldn't find anything comparing these two. I have a 4 channel amp that I'm using for my whole system. Ive got the front two channels running my comps and I'm going to bridge the rear two channels for ONE sub. I have a bridged 300RMS at 4 ohms coming from the rear two channels.

Now on to the comparison... I don't have a lot to go on since I've never heard either of these two subs. From pictures the RL-i seems to be quite a bit beefier and maybe made a little better. I want to get some opinions/ comments from you guys since I'll be getting something soon.

For comparison sake lets base things off a scale of 1-10

1)SQ (subjective)

2)Accuracy

3)Output

#2 and #1 are technically the same. If #1 were "SQ (Subjective)" it would be different. I can't say anything else since I haven't owned either, but it seems SQ is your primary concern. I'd say the IDQ myself, since the extra cone area will help in output, and they both seem to be great sounding drivers.

I was thinking that the extra cone area would help quite a bit. The sub wouldnt have to work as hard to keep up. Also, I noticed that the IDQ only needs 50RMS less than the RL-i....might run a little better off the amount of power that I'm able to throw at it.

The RL-i looks like a mean little sub...I wish I could hear the two before trying to decide

and the IDQ

There's such a thing as excess.

I can't see anyone actually pushing that RL-I to it's limits in a DD. I doubt I could push a Dayton Classic 8 to it's limits listening to music, much less an overhung driver with a throw so high that has to partially expose it's winding at rest. To me it's more magnet-size-bragging-rights than anything.

As far as voice coil configurations what would i be better off going with? Is there any difference between going with a single 4 ohm VC or a dual 2 ohm VC if im going to wire it to 4 ohms?

Since we live close to each other and I really wanted to try an RL-i 8...I will buy one on Friday. You buy the IDQ 10. We will get together when they both arrive and you can make your decision.

Here is a thought. I have an IDQ10 that I have never been real satisfied with (output wise). I might just be willing to ship it out and let you guys test it.

If he likes it, make me an offer. If he does not, just ship it back it one piece.
