t4004 and t5001 vs pdx 2150 and 600.1

I've been trying to piece together a new system for my daily driver. I will be running a 9887, focal polyglass 165v1's and a single 12 (still not sure on the sub Fi, rl p, RE, 12w6). I orginally was going to go with us amps xterminator series but since have changed my mind on them. I'm pretty rock solid the the amps listed so PLEASE DON'T mention any other brand. I just need insight on the two...

I'm having to rebuild (long story) and want something close if not better than what I had (JL 500/1 300/4) without spending a million bucks. Both lines listed can be found online for less than the JL amps...

thanks

They're both really solid amp brands and both of those series are nicely underrated. I'd choose the Alpines purely from an aesthetic perspective. They look exactly the same and with their size they can go just about anywhere. I used to have a PDX 4.150 before it was stolen and if you've never seen them in person, it's simply rediculous how small they are.

I like them both.

The PDX sounds clearer to me in the mids. It's easier in the 'lectrical & easier to hide. It does get hot & it desn't work (as) well when bridged to push midbass or subs. We put one on my wife's car & she loves it...but we had to get her a separate sub amp.

The new Power amps sound way better than the last generation RF amps (which I disliked). It's almost as clean in the middle but with better midbass than the PDX. It also works (very) well when bridged - mine pushes a w3 w. no problem. It draws less than other A/Bs but not as efficent as the PDX. Runs cool too.

About the only quirk I found with the T400 was a slight emphasis on the bass/highs; once I was able to figure that out, I was able to get a nice frequency response with the rest of my install.

My advice: go listen to the PDX in Cartoys & compare them to a good A/B amp (300/4?)...they have good setups. The T400 sounds closer to the 300/4 than to the PDX...then you will figure out if the PDX are for you...they do sound a bit different. Bring a CD that has tracks with midbass, mids & highs that you are familiar with.

They are both really good amps in their price range and practical to work with. You can build a great system around either for not too much$$$....

PS. I also had to change her tweeters to soft domes (with the PDX). She claims that they now sounded "harsh". She was running an Eclipse amp in her car before...
