reviews for alpine type x 6.5 comps?

If you're talking about the SPX-177R and not the new '07 models (if they actually become available this year //content.invisioncic.com/y282845/emoticons/laugh.gif.48439b2acf2cfca21620f01e7f77d1e4.gif ), then sure, I can give you a quick review.

If you're looking for aggressive midbass or sharp and bright highs, then they are not for you.

However...

If you are looking for a set of comps that was specifically designed to give extremely accurate sound reporduction above all else, then they might we worth trying out.

I've got mine biamped being powered with an Infinity 7541a amp (100w rms to each mid and 40w rms to each tweeter).

It took me a while to get used to them since they aren't an aggressive set (if you don't have one, plan for a substage, even if a relatively small and cheap setup), but the clarity of just about anything and everything that comes out of them still amazes me.

I've read comments here from people complaining that they don't keep up with thier dual 15" 2000w rms sub stage. Well no kidding HAHA! They simply are not designed to get ear-bleeding loud. They can get loud enough to where I have to bump the volume down a couple notches, and they keep up great with my single Assassin 12 (sealed, 1.2cf) on 400w rms.

Now for the price, I got mine brand new for a smidge over $200 shipped thanks to eBay. Depending on what characteristics you desire and if you are planning to spend more than about $180-200 on them, you might want to reconsider, in all honesty. They are excellent speakers, but they are certainly not for everyone.

well i have mb quart premium comps right now and i dont care for them. the highs are too harsh for my taste. especially since my tweeters are mounted on the dash and the sound is bouncing right off the windshield. thats why i am considering silk dome tweeters.

the installer i am going to suggested these and has them in stock.

Rainbow Germaniums come with the CAL25 silk tweeters. Very tasty.

Pioneer TS-C720PRS are an awesome set.

Polk MOMO MMC6500's are decent if bought for under $200.

...and that's just to name a few. You're likely going to get a bunch of recommendations over the next few days.

i would like something that has a solid amount of mid bass and smooth highs...

do any of the below out perform the SPX with that criteria?

Here's what I would suggest:

If you have 50-125w rms per channel, go with Momo's.

If you have 100-160w rms per channel, go with the Pioneer's.

If you have 150-225w rms per channel, go with the Rainbow's.

So what the most and the least amount of power you would run the type X's off?

I have heard the type x components in the walls at shops, but not in cars... they are very silky smooth speakers, but from what I've heard, they're aimed almost exclusively at SQ, and just don't get loud enough to blend with an aggressive sub-stage. Can't have your cake and eat it, too, I guess.

i only have one 10 inch subwoofer so maybe that is a perfect fit!
yeah, that could work out really well. You might want to look into just repositioning your Quarts, though. They can sound very nice and smooth if you aim and position them right. I love mine //content.invisioncic.com/y282845/emoticons/smile.gif.1ebc41e1811405b213edfc4622c41e27.gif
