Reversed Polarity - How to tell?

Ok, i was wiring in a new Type Argh today, and I forgot if i'd connected my wires to the appropriate push terminals.. so on the outside of the box I connected the + terminal to the - wire to the amp, and - to + on the amp.. the other terminal I left as normal.. subs sounded terrible. I switched the other push terminal so that it too was wired backwards, subs sounded fine.. then i switched them both to how they should be, assuming I wired the + terminals to the + on the subs and the - to - .. subs sounded fine on this setting too.. my question is this: short of taking the subs out and looking inside the box to figure out if i'm a dipshit, is there any way I can tell if I have my polarity wrong? and if I do, will it damage the subs?//content.invisioncic.com/y282845/emoticons/crap.gif.7f4dd41e3e9b23fbd170a1ee6f65cecc.gif

Take a 9volt battery.

Note the + and - on the battery.

Touch the speaker wires to the battery terminals.

The cone will move in or out.

If the cone moves out, that means the positive speaker terminal is connected to the positive on the battery.

If the cone moves inward you have the negative speaker terminal connected to the positive of the battery.

You can do this to each coil on a DVC sub separately.
