For competing and burps, that's usually the general idea, yea. For every day usage you probably don't want to do that unless you like having a box tuned in the 50's

You dont necessarily tune your box to the exact freq that the vehicle resonates to, you usually will want to tune it just a few hz under this. The easiest way is to use aeroports and tune lower than what you want then start cutting them down to raise the tuning to the desired freq. Its best not to use a slot port because they arent nearly as easy to tune and are less efficient. I have spent a lot of time talking to a guy who holds the MECA street 5 world record at 160.9 and he swears by aeroports.

Makes sense, question about aeroports. How long do they need to be. My SUV resonates right around 37 to 40 hz. Also, how do you attach tthe ports to the box?

If you use flared there are screws that you attach it to the box with. Not sure about straight but probably the same.
