Hey guys, okay first off my recone is back off completely, no residues of anything left behind and it will definitely be able to be reinsinstalled. My question though is one strand of my voice coil started to unwind. It unwound about an inch back, no bends, just broke and lifted from coil rub. I was thinking I could sand it down to bare copper and and use a little bit of solder to reattach ( i get continuity when i push the awry strand back to where it broke), and gently sand the solder down flush. I know I need some type of epoxy to spread over the coil, david recommended that I use the same devcon that I used for the recone, but i was just wondering would the solder hold up to the heat and could i still push the coil to 100% again? also what type of epoxy would hold up to the heat? thanks guys, I really appreciate any help!

Can you just eliminate that turn (or two, three?) You'll probably end up shorting out several turns if you try to solder it anyway. Its not going to fare well with that kind of heat. Magnet wire doesn't like heat. Barring that possibility it would seem the VC is junk and you're doing a scientific experiment, which I like. It certainly doesn't hurt to try. As for the epoxy I don't think Devcon (or any other consumer brand) is what you're after. Too brittle. I'd tote the rascal to the local motor rewinding shop. Schmooze a free slathering from them. They go through gallons and you need half a teaspoon.

im not quite sure what you mean by turns? but yeah it's just a quick fixem to hold me over until i save for some hdc3's. Thanks for the tip with the motor rewinding shop (to my advantage i am quite the schwindler)! also, do you think they'd have a better way to reconnect the break?

A turn is once around the VC. If the break is near the end of the coil wire you could eliminate the break altogether. I'm certainly not saying this is feasible if you'd have to remove lots of VC wire. A motor shop may get you fixed up cheaply. Happy schmoozing.

2x 4 ohm coils can be wired parallel to 2 ohms or series to 8 ohms. There's many amps with 2 ohm power you can use.

It mostly comes down to weight. You can have a super lightweight cone, soft suspension and aluminum coil on a sub and you pretty much get a pro...
