removin the back seat in sedans...

has anyone taken out the backseat in their sedan and noticed a subsustantial difference?

i went and took mine out and repositioned the box firing twords the cabin and i really dont notice any difference except now theres almost no rattling and you literally cant hear anything outside the car with all the windows up where as before from the outside all you heard was muffer/trunk/bumper/everything else sound like it was gonna fall off while driving .. i dunno that just struck me as somewhat odd, my buddy says he notices a great improvement in output but i suppose im just used to it and wanting more //content.invisioncic.com/y282845/emoticons/crazy.gif.c13912c32de98515d3142759a824dae7.gif

i jhave fold down rear seats and it makes a hugh difference, if you look at it, the back seat is maybe 6" or so thick which is insulating or damping your bass, with that removed it now all goes into the cabin and less is being blocked.

i see a lot of ppl doing that at comps that dont have fold down rear seats, they just remove the entire backseat for the time of the comp

every car is different. i had a 95 cavalier and it made no difference whether the seat was up or down. now i have an 02 cavalier and it makes a huge difference. the reason being is the air flow. think of your car as a sort of band pass set up, your box is one side and the cabin of your car is the other. what happens if you make the cabin side bigger or smaller? what if the box fires towards the trunk or towards the front...the wave length changes resulting in a difference in the sound. i found out that my 95 cavalier had trunk had vents on each side behind the bumper that went outside, my 02 doesn't.

In my present car there is a big difference between having the rear seat in and rear seat out (I don't have fold-down rear seats). While putting in my sound deadener and other various work, there was about a 3mo. period there where my rear seats were not in. After the rear seats were put back in place, there was a noticeable decrease in output. An actually, it seemed to alter the response a little aswell. I don't have any RTA graphs to prove it....but with the rear seat in it seems that the higher bass frequencies (~60hz+) aren't a prevalent.

since i have a 98 lumina sedan. (most of which dont have fold downs...) im going to get a backseat from a monte carlo of the same year (has fold down seats) and install them so i have fold downs.... it does make a big, noticable differecne in most applications.... i have leather seats and o man u should see that leather move with the bass.... its almost like the leather is sealing my trunk
