Relocating Ignition Cylinder. HELP

Does anyone know if there are any wires that go to the key ignition cylinder that have a sensitive impedence?

I want to relocate my ignition cylinder about 6 feet from the steering column.

Anyone have any precautions or suggestions?

Are you doing this to make it harder to steal the car? Don't the ignition wires carry alot of voltage?

im moving it so that it is next to the lower portion of the drivers seat. I plan to place a push button start in the center of the dash. I dont want to call attention to the key's prescence. Its a 2006 Civic, which runs on a drive by wire system, if thats of any importance.

ignition cylinder activation runs off the same 12 volts as everything else.

you don't need to move it, just rewire it. IE - normally open starter kill.

i dont understand what you're saying. I do want to move it, so you can not see a key in the steering column. Even if something was rigged where you didnt need to insert the key to start it, the chip inside the key would have to be present to disable the engine immobilizer that comes standard on hondas.

Anywho, anyone a ignition guru? I just want to know if i can extend the wires and move it where I want it.

I'm not exactly sure where you're trying to go with this.. But if you're looking to have a push-button start, you're either going to need the key in and turned OR have a toggle switch placed somewhere so you can turn everything "ON" and "OFF" and simply wire the ground wire from the switch to the push-start button and not need a key at all. If you know how to crimp, you can extend the wires wherever you want..

if you trying to put a bush button start in the car, were you can't see the key you will have to move the intire ignition and start harness to another location and put a button on the starter wire because if I'm not mastaken that car has a chip in it so the key to be in it to start the car.

thats exactly what im doin. So it seems i can just extend the wires and move it anywhere in front cabin without a problem. thanks for the feedback guys

you can bypass the transponder system too, use a relay to fool the system into thinking there is a key in the cylinder only at the time you want it to.

I just don't understand why you would want to move it.

You certainly can, but I wouldn't. The car can be made secure by rewiring the circuit rather then moving it.

If doing pushbutton start why even have a key cylinder? Take the ring around the key cylinder now (the anti-theft module) move that. Than just place the key inside or near the ring when you want to start the vehicle. Just like a remote start.

the wires for accesory heater and ignition should still be key activated, and are in cars with factory push button start.

what ring are you talking about? I dont know of any type of ring that senses the chip inside the key

also, i just realized i dont know who's making push buttons for these type of applications anymore. Any suggestions on brand? or OEM retrofit solutions?
