My setup is just a simple MB Quart RAA4200 powered temporarily by a weak stock head unit (max 40w out). I was driving home today, hit some bumpy asphalt and something shifted in my truck and caught the rear left speaker wire, pulling it out and shorting it against the case (or maybe the other wire in that pair, dunno). I immediately lost FL, FR, and RR. I pulled over, popped open the trunk and immediately caught the tell tale smell of burned silicon (I've work with computers professionally for over a decade now and know the smell). I pulled everything out of it, went home and opened it up:
Damaged transistors, from top left: 1, 3, 5, 6. It looks like a fire because of the soot on one of the caps there. None of the three 30A fuses on the amp kicked off, nor did the inline 80A jump in to save me. I've had this setup for over a year now, and never had a problem with power.
I don't know if the transistors took out any other components on their way to the silicon heaven (or hell, those bastards). Anybody think if this is recoverable or should I start hunting for another amp? Fortunately, all my speakers seem to be fine.
Thanks,
