Reconing a MT

i know some of you guys on here have done it, i know you have to aling it, with i heard business cards and other different stuff, what kind of glue do you use?, and is it pretty easy to do?

need solder

? glue for spider and surround

something to align with and your done?

i have some goop, how is that for the glue? i used it to repair my dustcap

i dont know if i can do it, i might just get a guy to do it that lives here

Can you do me a favor and measure the diameter of your dustcap? I have an 18 with a cracked dustcap, but its a custom driver so I need to find something similar...

The MT's gap is REALLY tight... so be carefule and make sure you use some type of alignment shims...

Also, for the dustcap, I recommend you take some duct tape... loop it with the sticky side out... and use it to carefully lower the dustcap on the cone...

Also, as you know... line the dustcap with goop as well...

Make sure to use a P3 philips bit, and basically put all your weight down on it... like... all of it... and then go for it.

Yes you drop the spider and vc into place, then put business cards on the inside to get the vc aligned correctly. Works great.

Use a manilla folder and wrap it around the pole..keep cutting it till the ends butt up to one another..imo, if you do it w/ buisness cards, youre going to overlap some of them..which will throw the assembly off center..just tape the manilla folder together once you get it right and put it aside..

before you start with the glue..grind down the surround and spider landings till all of the paint is gone. once thats done, lay down a fat bead of glue on the surround landing, put the shim around the poll as far down as it'll go, but enough to where you can get a good hold to pull it out once the glue has cured..now, slide the drop-in assembly down over the shim...once you get it to the glue push down evenly and hit it with the accelerator..should only take moment to dry, but keep pushing down.

Once thats done, on to the surround..the 15" versions' recone is the easiest one to do..meaning the surround is actually pretty much laying on the surround landing at this poinnt where the 10"s, 12"s are almost a 1/2" above and you have to push it down a good amount..

You can use the Goop or the CA here...using the ca you wont have but a few moments before the glue is dry to make sure the surround is down nicely. I always do it like this, but since youve never done it before..id use the goop..if you go this route, you can lay down a nice bead, push the assembly down till it seats and then put the surround on to keep it down..then it'll dry nice and evenly. let it dry for a good while, then pull the shim out..

as far as the dust cap goes, stand directly above the sub and eye it till its centered...from there, id take a pencil and trace around it..leaves a shiny line so you can see it..lay down a bead of glue on the line and place the dustcap down.

biggest thing is to not be in a hurry and get that shim right, and always push down evenly and centered....its really not very hard at all, but a bit nerve racking from the beginning till you throw power to it, to see if it doesnt rub the first time..

I forget if the spider and vc comes as one and seperate from the cone for RE's recones.

If they do come seperate, Id solder the tinsel leads first, then do the cone and surrond. Much easier.
