i have 1 old style and 1 new style xfl 1244. both are fried.

question is i can get the recones for both models directly from bob through a 40 minute drive to his shop. for $75 a piece better than spending almost $400 for new ones. but are recones worth it ? i would think that they are good enough but ive heard reconing is a waste regardless of what sub brand you have.

and if not was looking for someone in the cleveland ohio area that knows how to recone . thanks

If you already have the motors I'd go ahead and get the recones. It's essentially the same as a new driver. And you save 250.

i mean i have both subs still but i have never done a recone.
Who told u recones were a waste? u should stop listening to them lol ..as lomg as the pole piece isnt shifted or something dropping in new recones is just like a new woofer.theres tons of simple vids on recones ...its fairly easy if u are halfway hands on and intelligent ..if not u can pay someone to do it

well i removed the sub from the box and i looked under the spider and the little copper wires that wrap around the botton of the cone are frayed and black. i think i clipped them to death haha. not sure about the "pole" your talking about

i am pretty hands on and smart i just never have done that, plus i dont even know what kind of glue works well or if i need to clamp them like people say

All that will be replaced coils spiders cone surround amd leads will already be assembled for u all u have to do is drop the cone in and use the supplied shims and glue the spiders and surround down then slap on a dust cap ..u use ca glue..most places sell them with the recones ...i really like soundqubed wonderglu..its white and dries clear so no nasty black smears if u cant lay a smooth bead.

so the new recones come with shims?

and i think i can do that ive watched video of people reconing a sub they said only thing hard is shimming it good.

so basically is fool proof unless your a complete idiot? lol

Yes it will come with 2 or 3 plastic shims to make sure the coil in centered in the gap

alright cool. yea i think ill give that a try instead of dropping $200 on new subs. im pretty meticulous when it comes to tedious stuff like this so i think i can get it done.
