Hi everyone,

As you can see I'm new here, but not to car audio. It does seem that some things have changed since I did my last big install though. Anyway, I recently got an 87 Grand National and am planning an install for it. Here are some of the specifics and components I have.

I don't want to alter the car in any way as it would affect the value of the vehicle. I am looking for SQ with the ability to get fairly loud. I currently have:

Crossfire eh-2 horns

a plethora of MB Quart 6.5, 5.25,4, and tweets with xovers

4 original Image Dynamics IDQ 12 SVC 4 ohm

2 Zapco z300s2vx - 150 x 2 600x1 at 4 ohm

1 Zapco Z150c2vx - 75 x 2 600x 1 at 2ohm

2 ppi eq31, 2 xtant (morel) 4" coax, rockford punch 30

Kenwood KDC-x789 headunit, coustic xm-6

I was going to run the horns with the z150 at 37.5 watts each. Either 6.5 or 5.25 MBQ in fiberglass kicks off a Z300. Xtants in fiberglass baffles for rear fill off the RF, and finally the 4 ID subs off the other Z300. All active crossovers.

I see that capacitors have fallen out of favor and will investigate this site further as to why. If anyone can point me in the right direction I'd appreciate it. I also see that most installs nowadays feature rear facing subs. Any difference. I was planning on facing them forward for impact as well as SQ. Any objections? I had never heard of the BIG 3 wiring until I found this site and I plan to try it.

If anyone can offer any input or ideas i'd appreciate it. I only want to do one install in this car, 20 like my last car.

Thanks in advance,

Darkside

capacitors do not solve voltage problems. only more batteries and a high output alt will...

in trunk cars it's louder to face subs and port towards the rear of the trunk. unless you face them into the car and seal the trunk off from the cabin...

any pics of that car? sry its one of my favs

That is Richard Clark's/Speakerworks GN that was done in the mid/late 80's. It was wild at the time.

I'm going to try the Big 3 and after the system is complete, I'll decide if I need an extra battery etc. I guess i'll skip the cap since its about 8 years old anyway.

I'm trying to upload a pic of the car, but it won't do it for some reason. I'm not a computer whiz and can almost guarantee I'll screw up some type of forum etiqette as well. Any help?

Anybody have any suggestions/changes/ideas?
