Reccommended Eclipse HU's?

I have $300 to spend and I need a great headunit, and I am rather fond of Eclipse's line.

I'm looking for great SQ, as well as at least 5V output, and i don't mind buying them used.

I'm leaning towards the CD5100. Are there any better options?

You should be able to find a brand new 7000 for around $300 maybe less. I like running eclipse's with the classic 8V preouts. People say that 8V doesn't make a difference but I can tell that my highs are louder and cleaner if I don't mess with my gains when I go from a 4V uni to a 8V uni. I like that i don't have to turn my gains up higher.Same for my sub amp.

Isn't the 7000, 5V? or are you just talking 8v in general? It seems that the only more recent eclipse models in my price range is the 5100 and 7000.

Yeah, the CD7000 is 5v, but the difference in output between 5v and 8v is what your gain controls are for.

I believe the CD7000 has a much better EQ and overall DSP (like time delay etc.) than the CD5100.

I had to turn my gains down quite a bit, almost all the way down, when I replaced my Alpine 9827 (4v) with an Eclipse cd5000 (8v).

So, in my opinion, pre-out voltage levels on hu's makes a hell of a difference.

I have the CD8445, the equivalent of the CD5000 and it is by far the best sounding HU I have ever owned. I could only imagine the 8455 or 7000 sounding a lil bit better as far as xover and eq points. Any eclipse is a good product and you won't be disappointed.

Get an 8443 if you can...or if you want the ability to go 3-way active, get an 8053. Those are two of the best Eclipse HUs made in my opinion.
