So, I'll just prefeace this with that fact that I am by no means an expert on subs. I've been hearing local dealers talk about free air subs that preform well in giving good SQ bass (say mounding on the rear deck of a car with a trunk). From everything I read though, it seems less volume is necessary to really get a sub to preform well. Subs I have had dealers propose as being made for freeair are Hertz and Morel. The Hertz has something to do with the fact the europeans can't put subs boxes in their trunk? so they have to be good freeair. I'm wondering if I'm just getting my leg pulled here, it seems to me that even a sub that is build for a huge enclosure must have some perfect large enclosure size, so that anything differing from that size is gonna get lesser responce. Is there such a thing as an excellent sounding free air sub or if I mount a couple 8's in my rear deck am I gonna have to make some hanging box set-up. I'm sorry if this is a repeat question or if I'm missing a fundemental. (side note if there is such a thing as a good free air sub is there a way I can tell be the specs that it is?)
