Alright heres the thing i got this 12'' kicker comp and a gothic seris amp but no i couldn't stop there i had to get and another sub an amp (pay day lol) but i bought an 4.0F Capacitor and i've got everything pretty well done but is there a remote wire or anything i need to hook up or am i over looking something....how is the capacitor suppost to turn off? i kno im just prolly over lookin something if u can help it'd be great

It doesn't have a remote wire... You're fine.

Except the fact that you bought a capacitor... //content.invisioncic.com/y282845/emoticons/uhoh.gif.c07307dd22ee7e63e22fc8e9c614d1fd.gif

A 4 farad capacitor, huh? How much did that run ya?

All the capacitors I have seen (including the one I won in a local raffle - yay - which sits collecting dust in my closet) turn themselves off after they detect no current draw after X amount of time, depending on brand the timespan differs.

I don't know much about capacitors and it seems like the general theme here at caraudio.com is that they are a waste of money. Why is that? Wouldn't they help your electrical system if you tax it with a bunch of powerful amps?

Keep in mind that this is just one man's opinion, TeenWolf ~

There have been various studies which claim to have found that capacitor usage actually worsens your average current. Some people claim that after having installed a cap that it made worlds of difference.

I have a Stinger 1 farad monitor-top cap that I got from a $1 raffle locally. I installed it so I would know from experience how much difference they made, if any. I noticed neither any improvement to my average voltage having the cap in use nor any voltage drop. I left it installed for a few days 'cause it has a blue LED voltage readout and a neon ring encircling the top of it so it kinda looks cool but eventually took it out as it was just one more thing cluttering already limited trunk space.

I had a look around and found the average retail on this particular cap was around $160 or so and it sold on eBay BNIB for around $90 most places that I saw it. I certainly don't see a worthwhile return on that much of an investment so I personally advise those that ask against wasting good $$ on a cap. That same money would be better spent upgrading their Big 3 with money for dinner and a movie left over //content.invisioncic.com/y282845/emoticons/smile.gif.1ebc41e1811405b213edfc4622c41e27.gif

Do some searching on forums like elitecaraudio.com i believe, there are a few detailed threads. Many people just dont know what the hell they are saying though and they only run off of hear-say.

capacitors act just like container to hold electricity when you have something thats using electricity it takes it from that then the power source unless your capacitor is big and can charge up before all the electricity stored is used up. so all you people saying caps **** learn some electronics before you make your self sound dumb

and caps are only used to ease the load of current on you cars electrical system so its either cap or bigger alternator

Well, actually caps can cause some added strain on your electrical system, but they are not always the devil like people say they are.

My opinions on capacitor usage are based on personal experience. The cap I own is one from a reputable wiring accessories company (though I've read a few different places that all capacitors regardless of brand label are all manufactured in the same buildhouse) and for a 1 farad cap is one of their nicer models. As previously stated I noticed no improvement with it in use as opposed to without it. Most caps retail for a C-note or better and I simply cannot see where it would be a worthwhile investment. I don't need to 'learn some electronics before I make myself sound dumb.' {speaking of sounding dumb, by the way, if you'll have another look at your post y-o-u-r-s-e-l-f is one word, genius ~ not two} I well know how to properly install and use mobile audio equipment, tyvm. There was no discernable advantage to having that capacitor inline so I cannot justify to myself or anyone else to go and spend $100 or more on something that isn't going to help them any.

Most caps add strain to the system because when a cap discharges where does it pull its power to rechagre.......The cars electrical system, so now you have a cap and an amp pulling on the cars Elec. System. if you were to buy a cap get a small one 1 farad or less, and make sure it has a low ESR.
