With the power cable connected to the battery and rca cables hooked up, and the amp grounded, i stupidly put the remote wire in the remote hole on the amp while i had the radio on. now my amp doesn't get power , even after replacing the fuse on the power cable. Could i have shorted the wire out?

use a DMM and check to see if that wire is getting voltage. if not, check that wire again at the HU. still no voltage, its the HU.
my head unit has no fuses in the back, i checked the amp fuses and those are good, but i could try hooking the remote wire up again and seeing what happens with the dmm

x2, a DMM can work wonders for diagnosing a problem. It could be 1000 different things with the information you've given us...

so i should test it before i go and buy a new remote wire? i thought for sure i shorted out the wire since it stopped getting power right after
