Re-XXX 6.5" specifications . . . where are they?!

Hey Guys,

I have had a pair of RE-XXX 6.5" mids in my rear doors for about a rear now, but I don't think they are a proper match for my Orion HCCA 225-G4 (impedance isn't low enough). The Re's are distorting at fairly low volumes, and are disappointing.

I can't find the specs for the XXX mids anywhere! I need to know what the RMS wattage is, and also the ACTUAL impedance of the speakers. I am thinking of usig a US-Amps 400x or 600x for them instead.

Can someone help me? The RE website is absolutely useless.

Thanks,

Bryan

are those any good?
I am not too pleased with them, but it is liekly because I am running them IB in my sound deadened doors. People say that they need a box. I also think I am underpowering them with an Orion HCCA 225G4 (the impedance isn't low enough). The XXX mids are distorting at fairly low volumes in my car. I am guessing that this is all due to installer error though.

I have mine IB, deadned doors. Very pleased with them. They don't need an enclosure.

They are distorting due to overdriving the amp. Leads to clipping.

single 2ohms 150 watts rms.

Are you saying that I am overdriving my amp, which is leading to clipping? I hope that is all that is the matter, because I am thinking about getting a different amp for the mids and using the Orion HCCA 225G4 for a single 12" 2ohm DVC sub instead (wired in parallel). I was thinking about an Image Dynamics IDQ12.

Currently, the XXX mids are hooked up in mono (I was trying to get the most power out of the amp). I am thinking about getting a US Amps 400x to power the XXX mids instead.

Thanks,

Bryan

How high are they playing.

Ideally, you don't want them to go above 1.2kHz @24db/oct...

Also, I thought they were 200rms. That's what I'm sending mine for the past 1.5years and they love it. They're in .2cube sealed door pods //content.invisioncic.com/y282845/emoticons/smile.gif.1ebc41e1811405b213edfc4622c41e27.gif.

Yes with only 50 watts each and running them mono, I'm sure you are driving the amp to clip. You would need to turn the gain up fairly high to get full output on that amount of power.

They shine with 100-200 watts of power.

Thanks for helping me out guys!

The Orion HCCA 225G4 has the following power output:

2 x 25 @ 4 Ohm

2 x 50 @ 2 Ohm

2 x 100 @ 1 Ohm

2 x 200 @ .5 Ohm

1 x 100 @ 4 Ohm

1 x 200 @ 2 Ohm

1 x 400 @ 1 Ohm

I'm not really sure exactly how they are hooked up any more //content.invisioncic.com/y282845/emoticons/frown.gif.a3531fa0534503350665a1e957861287.gif I know that they are both on the "right" side. Does this mean that they are hooked in mono? I thought that hooking them up in this way would reduce the impedance to about 1-ohm? Can someone figure out how much power I am actually feeding the XXX's from this description and the amp specs above? I am beginning to confuse myself :S

I am running the Orion amp in bandpass mode, which should restrict the speakers to only midbass.

Thanks again!

Bryan

How do you have it wired? What are your x-over frequencies?
Only you can say. I might be god, but I'm lazy...
I didn't actually wire it up myself, someone else did it for me.

All I know is the following:

a.) If I balance all the way to the right, the mids are playing. If I balance all the way to the left, the mids are turned off.

b.) The Orion HCCA 225G4 amp has a built-in crossover for highpass, lowpass, or bandpass. I am in the bandpass mode (which should restirct to only midbass).

c.) I guess I could probably set crossover frequencies with my head unit (Alpine CDA-9835) but I haven't really done that yet. I just put in a slope of about 12db because a stereo shop guy said that it "saves speakers from being destroyed".

Sorry that I don't know much about the install. Can someone figure out how the mids are wired based on this description?

Thanks,

Bryan

No. It's impossible.

They are either getting 50 watts each or 25 each... From your description of the fader.

And running them on one channel with only one signal = garbage.

Thanks man.

So, if I hooked up to a US Amps 400x (200W x 2 @ 2-ohms) then my XXX mids should soun much better? 25W or 50W is not nearly enough for these monster mids . . .

Thanks!

Bryan

This is what I was thinking I did:

I have two 2-ohm speakers. I wire them in series so that the compbined load is 1-ohm. Doesn't this mean that the amp is outputting 1 x 400W at 1-ohm? Or, in other words, 200W per speaker?

My logic can be totally screwed up :p

Thanks!

Bryan
