RE SX question

One thing to remember though, reaching xmax doesn't mean you are reaching full output.

When you have less power available, a smaller box can actually be louder than a larger one. You have to be able to pressurize the box properly, and the bigger the box -- the more power it takes to pressurize. Obvisouly there is a trade off at some point, but, xmax won't always gurantee you output.

To the original question -- 600 RMS is as low as I'd go per SX, I'd also use the smallest recommended ported box.

true, but in a lot of cases its easier to just tell someone to try and reach xmax with X ammount of power using X box. a lot of times, when people find out about all that can go into a system such as box design, power compression, this and that blah and blah they get intimidated. so IMO its just easier to say "reach xmax'. you are right tho, thats not all there is to it //content.invisioncic.com/y282845/emoticons/wink.gif.608e3ea05f1a9f98611af0861652f8fb.gif

Yeh, I hate when I complicate people lol. I think it would be good to tell people to get there sub to reach xmax, then add bricks to take up volume -- if it gets louder then good - permanently take up the space, if not, use the box as is.

Im also debating wether or not to get an SX,...I think of either the SX or SE, going to run in it on a jl 500/1, which is around 650-700watts rms, ported box of course.
