how many watts does a sx need minimum to hit nicely? noob question i kno but im curoius and what amp would b good to push them
true, but in a lot of cases its easier to just tell someone to try and reach xmax with X ammount of power using X box. a lot of times, when people find out about all that can go into a system such as box design, power compression, this and that blah and blah they get intimidated. so IMO its just easier to say "reach xmax'. you are right tho, thats not all there is to it //content.invisioncic.com/y282845/emoticons/wink.gif.608e3ea05f1a9f98611af0861652f8fb.gifOne thing to remember though, reaching xmax doesn't mean you are reaching full output.
When you have less power available, a smaller box can actually be louder than a larger one. You have to be able to pressurize the box properly, and the bigger the box -- the more power it takes to pressurize. Obvisouly there is a trade off at some point, but, xmax won't always gurantee you output.
To the original question -- 600 RMS is as low as I'd go per SX, I'd also use the smallest recommended ported box.
Only in sealed boxes my friend, only in sealed...harder to compensate for the wrong size box when you're messing around with ported.Or, build a small ported box, and add pillow stuffing
