1.) Tech is a legend in his own area. So when you look all over the US of "who is big in their area" to produce a list of "best US rappers", his name is going to come up.

2.) Smoking is not directly related to knowledge and/or use of knowledge..

Are we talking about strictly rap, or are we talking about R&B sound.. like Common or Talib Kweli..

There's a difference between top 5 rappers, and top 5 lyricists.

If we are doing lyricists, i'd be putting Pharoahe Monch, Common, Tonedeff, Big Pun, Chali 2na, Ghostface, and a BUNCH of other dudes, into consideration.

And the smoking thing really isn't irrelevant. People say he's good because he sells millions. Cigarettes sell and they are freaking terrible.

Dre was good in his day and yes, he had other writters, but was still some good shit back in the day and he is an excellent producer.

Stuff like old Dre, snoop, 2Ppac,biggie,Nas, Ice Cube are people I listen too when I do listen to rap. I can't get into this shit today.

Talib Kweli has great lyrics, yes. But have you heard dudes flow? It's one of the worst flows i've heard in a very, long time.

Delivery is very important, and Talib just doesn't have that.

There is a difference between top 5 rappers, and top 5 lyricists. You probably don't even know this guy, but somebody like Tonedeff, has INSANE lyrics, absolutely ridiculous, but to say he's a good overall rapper? No sir, he has no classic albums, he is not versatile at all, and he has quite the staccato voice which is quite annoying =(. But his lyrics are ridiciulous.
