I have an orion 2150sx that I bought off of ebay a while back. Amp works great but it was obviously in direct sunlight before I got it as it has faded to more of a bronze color. Anyone know where I can get a new heatsink for this amp, or have the old on re-adonized to black?

check your phonebook for a chrome shop. If they don't anodize, they may know who will. Oh and price varies by state because of hazmat laws/fees.

Or.. call an anodizing place. To re-anno something that small it shouldnt be more than $20. I got my entire paintball gun annoed for $55 at a local place, and places that specificaly anno paintball guns charge around $120.

these might fit your amp, but you might have to do somthing about the sides because obviously its not the same amp. maybe you could connect the bottom plate from your existing amp, to the side panels of your existing amp, and use the heatsink from one of these auctions.

or - you might look into sandblasting the heatsink so that its silver, and leaving the finish like that. annodizing is expesnsive, and it requires the use of VERY high currents and some NASTY acids. i would strongly advise NOT trying it at home, and i think its a bit on the expensive side.

but you can always purchase one of these kits and try and do it //content.invisioncic.com/y282845/emoticons/tongue.gif.6130eb82179565f6db8d26d6001dcd24.gif

Only aluminum can be anodized. Some types of aluminum can't be because of the copper in the alloy.

The way it works is, when the aluminum is in a soloution of sulfuric acid and water, a charge is applied. Typicaly 8 amps per square foot of surface area. Positive to the part and negative to the cathodes. Over a short time, about an hour, aluminum oxide is created on the surface. Aluminum Oxide is in the same family as Saphires and Rubys. The only thing harder is Daimonds. The aluminum oxide is very porous. This is how the dye is absorbed, or if you want it clear, leave out the dyeing stage. Then seal it and you're done.

I just got into this about a year and it is cool.

Tahks for all the info, I'll see what I can track down locally, don't really want to try it myself if that can be avoided....altho those raw cases are tempting....the things that could be done with those....
