RD alpha 15's louder with port sealed off????

I've got two alpha 15's in 4 cubes each separate chambers with a single 6" X 11" aeroport in each chamber. When just playing music ANY lower note sounds terrible, it's like not sound at all it's just sub moving. When i shove a towel in the port it hits the lows better and the highs are louder... WTF is wrong with my tuning. I was told that a 6 inch diameter aeroport (11 inches long) in 4 cubes would be roughly 36hz. Am i THAT far off? Thanks in advance trying to get it worked out by tomorrow second day of scrapin...

How. keeping the 6" diameter?

Also i heard that you need at least the diameter of the port away from the back wall (so 6" away from the back of my box) for it to be accurate. Mine isn't, it's maybe 2-3 tops. How bad would that change things?

That port probably tuned the subs too high, I bet right now your stuff slams around 60Hz but nothing below 30Hz?

Build a new box.

Try shortening the ports about 1 inch at a time till you get desired results. (around 5" long prob sound decent) what vehicle do you have?
