Rca to amp question

Got 'Roids?
I was looking in my Bass Mekanik CD booklet, and it has some SPL tips in it, and it talks about the left and right channels on the amplifier interfering with eachother causing a non constant sounding tone when you play the test tones. Then it says you can unhook either RCA from your amp to find out which channel is louder and use that channel. Is that why I see some guys that compete with a y splitter of the chosen channel running to their amps? Is this recommended for daily use as well? Or does that only apply when a constant tone is played?
