rca remote wire?

On my rca wires there is a small black wire that comes out of the middle of each side. I'm assuming this is a remote wire, but it looks so small. Could it be some kind of grounding wire? how big should a remote wire be?

Usually remote wires are pretty small, since they don't have to carry much current - usually under a half an amp. Mine's 14awg THHN stranded wire, but that's because it was the only thing around at the time.

okay i found the box to find out what kind, and it says built in remote wire. Should i fuse this thing?

if you want to. Put a small inline fuse as close to the head unit wiring harness as possible, and you'll be good to go.

jus be aware that there is a slight possiblity of some noise being introduced into signal w/ the 2 wires being run next to each other

I have both my RCA's ziptied and Techflex'ed to my main power cable, which is 2awg worth of welding cable.
