rattling noise when subwoofer turned up.

Hey guys a noob to car audio here! Just bought a car that came with a 12 inch JL w6 sub powered by a jl 500/1 way amp. When i turn up the volume and the bass starts knocking it sometimes starts to make a rattle noise then when i then down the volume i can still here the rattle noise. Next day i drive my car again and i turn up the volume and the rattle noise is gone? What is going on? Any help will be greatly appreciated! Btw from what i can tell the sub and amp is probably old *** hell because the previous owner of the car had it hooked up to a old *** kentwood flip touch screen head unit from like 2002. Thanks!
