I have to agree with the faults of the Rainbows. They are severely unforgiving in almost every way. Poor install, bad recording quality, or poor CD rips. They are not for the average install, nor for the 128kbps MP3 fanatic. About the only thing they do forgive is off axis response, and they do forgive that very well. =)
I have had mine installed for a while now. I was playing with the install trying to improve what I thought was midbass (turned out to be percussion coming out of the tweeters. Hah!). I was listening to Dimmu Borgir - The Maelstrom Mephisto and suddenly it sounded... different. I dropped the volume, picked up the free air mid I had sitting beside me and put it to my ear. Sure enough, beyond the music, there was distortion! Judging by the BCAE distortion files, I would guess it to be about 2 decibles (from flatline) coming from my on-the-fritz comp amp. If you don't see the signifance of this, go and download that song and try to hear *anything*.
