Rainbow germs and acvite, advise plz

there is a guy i work with and got a set of rainbow germ and i think he got it from woofersetc im not %100 sure. we were walk and he was telling me how he want to add 8inch woofers to the germs and make them a 3-way. Hes going to get a 4 Channel amp and use the 1 & 2 Channel for the germs and 3 & 4 for the 8 inch woofers. its not going to be a true active setup but i was wondering what you guys think of that set up??

Channels 1 & 2 for the germs with the passive crossover ( use the 6.5 as a midrange)

Plus

Channel 3 & 4 add 8 inch woofers ( as a midbass)

to make it a 3-way for the front stage

I was asking the guy why?? he said "it was going to sound good"

I dont think he know why or how but he thinks its going to sound better

i was wondering if thats a good idea??

If the guy has the money, time, equipment, and installation... that could sound great, so long as he uses the right woofers. If he doesn't have the right equipment, skills, time...then it will probably not sound better, though it will certainly sound different.

The amount of deadening that you need to do to a door to actually run a good sounding 3way setup involving a powerful 8 or 9 inch woofer in the door along with a set of the germanium's calibre is pretty crazy... most people aren't going to put forth the effort, time, and money.

Hey BlackMaxina,

yes it can work,the 8's will be active.

I know a guy that has a vette useing Morel's Elate series 3way comps.

He has the tweeter & midrange on the passive, then the 9inch running active off a 4 channel amp.

yes it really does sound impressive, he's up in napa,ca.

He competes locally & in SQ he gets good reviews for his set up.

going active verse passive is just a choice people make.

To me one doesnt sound better then the other, active is just having more options/control

he needs to set the 3&4 channels to LPF and set it at w/e he wants his midbass to play up to.. have them on the front channels off a splitter still.. and then set the hpf at w/e you don't want them to play below.. he can set the 1 & 2 channels to hpf and set it how ever he normally would..

I have a set of geraniums on 100watts a piece 200 a side for 4x100 in total output and think they could use a bit more power, specially the 6.5 so i would think you would want more power.
