I think if you went with that set you'd be quite content and would care less what other sets sound like. I'm really into my $400 Rainbows and nothing out there costing up to 2x or 3x as much impresses me or has me feeling the need to replace them. With all the makes you listed above, install and application will determine their greatness. They are all fine, high quality speakers.
I feel Rainbow Profi line with the Cal26VAF silk tweet is a better, smoother set than the aluminum tweet on the Vanadium set-just my preference. If you are going to compare DLS and Dyn silk/fabric tweet sets (which is what they are known for) it would be against Rainbows silk tweets

i'm kind of in the same boat as shocks, looking for new components. maybe not just rainbows but something that can handle a good amount of power has great midbass and smooth clear highs and is under about 400
Well all of your requires (except the last) would point in the direction of Dynaudio comps. Very clean at all power levels, and they will take huge amounts of power without distorting one bit. But you are looking at least 7 bills.
For under 4 bills, maybe look into the CDT Audio HD series comps. Very clean at around 200 watts each, but do well with much less power. Don Smith over at Islandsound1@yahoo.com can get you some really great prices on these sets, he is fully authorized and is a great guy to buy from. PLUS CDT offers a full 4 year warranty on all their gear. A few months ago,he quoted me $285 for the HD set, which retails for close to $500.
I just wished that I could find a dealer near here that carries them. The nearest dealer in this state that has them (a single pair of Profi 2-ways on a sound board) is nearly 150+ miles away. luckily my dealer is 20min from me and I was able to audition just about the whole line- on top of that he's a Maxima specialist and 90% of the installs I have the chance to audition are in the same vehicle/install platform- call me lucky
I called most of the dealers on the Alumapro website, and the universal response was something like this..
"Rainbows? What are those?"
"Who makes 'em? I've NEVER heard of Rainbows?"
So I go on to ask them if they carry Alumapro products. They generally reply with a "Yes!", then I tell them that Alumapro is now distributing Rainbow speakers and then I get..
"I had no idea. I'll have to call them and get some more information."
or.. "If they carry them, we shoud be able to order them. I have no idea of prices, though.."
The only dealer that actually knew something was the one in Salem. He said that he had a set of Profi's, he stated the price, then he said that it was his only pair, and that he didn't know if he could sell them or not..
So I asked him if he knew anything about them, and I get..
"I know that they are made in Germany and that they are expensive.."

SLC265s msrp is ~$350, Profi's 265s MSRP is $599, Arc ACS(made by rainbow on par with profi set) Msrps $449
Anyone know of any professional reviews for Rainbow (or even ARC Audio) components? Car audio magazine reviews (PDF files/ online magazines/ bookstand mags), or on some website somewhere. I could deal with living in Eugene. Plenty of places to look for stuff. Heck, it's not that far of a drive to Salem or Portland. Try living down here in Coos Bay.
