Radio Static

I am driving a Mercury Grand marquis. Recently I have been getting radio static on AM particularly when I am near power lines. While some of this can be expected its been getting worse to a point where all I hear is static plus under the worst conditions I can hear the indicators through the radio and engine wine. I have tried looking for the noise suppressor with no luck. Is this a suppression problem or an antenna problem or a radio problem. FM is okay.
