"Unformat" / Data Recovery software, needs suggestions

I need an obtainable full-version or freeware recovery soft. Can be a tinylinux or windows xp app, either way.

My neighbor formatted the drive with his work stuff, and I offered to lend a hand.

there are plenty of programs out there. jus do a search for recovery on google. or download.com
