"side biased" listening. stereo imaging

i was reading about stereo imaging and came across side biased listening where it described how the left side of your front stage may seem louder, and can lower the right sides frequencies (by ear only, not literally) well this is exactly what mine does. i messed around and put the balance +2 to the right, which level it out. but i dont like that. i want it equally balanced. are there any ways to do this? they didnt explain how, or even if it was possible. does the left side always sound louder, no matter what? cuz honestly when i ran coaxes, my right side sounded louder and often found my self adjusting balnce to the left so i could hear it on my side more. is this what stereo imaging is all about? should i try moving my right side tweeter a little bit, or what? im lost here...

Time delay through some expensive head units or outboard eq's is the only real way to achieve balance.

I believe Pioneer makes (or made) some outboard eq's that would mate well with your head unit.

I see them all the time on eBay for $100 to $200.

If you have individual gains for left and right, maybe you could level adjust by using gains first. That would bring the entire range down (or up). Then work on EQ.

no, no individual gain. but i do notice the louder its turned up the more it gets properly balanced, but i have it setup as of now with barely any midbass, just waiting for my sub amp. so when i turn it up to nominal listening volume, where my subs should start kicking in pretty well, it gives me a headache. i have nothing to drown out alot of the highs.. ill look into those outboard EQ's if i absoloutely have to.

Two different topics being discussed here: balance, and time delay.

Balance merely attenuates one side (lessens output) so as to blend the outputs left-to-right for casual listening preference. Problem is, the left speakers are still closer to you than the right ones, the output from each side reaches your ears at different times. This is where time delay helps. You can delay the signal going to the closest speakers, so that in the end all sound waves (left and right) reach your ears at the proper time. You may still need to level match the output of left and right speakers for blending purposes.

time alignment and independent speaker gains ftw.

i love my hu because if a particular driver is overpowering, i can just turn it down. i can control my left and right mids and tweets indepently from one another. So if i notice my right tweeter is overpowering my left one, i can just attenuate it a couple dbs.

Yep, that's the ticket. //content.invisioncic.com/y282845/emoticons/fro.gif.c695f1f814b01c4ad99fe7f8cccadd29.gif
