I own a 2004 Mazda3.

The stock HU, when the car starts up, displays "Hello". Is it embedded into the HU or would there be a way to change it?

Anyway, most likely no, maybe look into a vehicle specific forum. But i would say it is in memory in the radio, and you are atleast going to need to hook something up to reprogram it in. I think its flashed programmed onto a chip. I used to work in computer board manufacturing but I dont remember how we used to do it.

If you find anything, please let me know. Know of many inquiring about it.

The 2003 Mazda 6 has that same thing. My friends dad got a custom alpine HU installed at soundadvice. it was the highest model last year Alpine (i forgot model #) and they had to rewire a remote led inside the unit so it could work from the stock steering wheel controls. the stock radio/pannel/ac everything controls are unable to be removed if you want everything to run in the car. so the HU was installed IN the glovebox. i believe they just removed & turned off all the stock HU electrical so it wasnt connected to any of the speakers. he has 2 JL amps, one for subs, one for his 4 speakers. but in saying all this, the stock HU has nothing to do with the car anymore and when you turn on the car it still says "Hello". it doesnt bother him at all, but i guess the wiring for that LED pannel to say "Hello" must not be controlled by the stock HU or else it wouldnt be working in his car.
