"Free" downloadable spyware/virus protection?

As the question states... Are there any reliable/worth a shit feree downloadable virus protection programs? just got a new comp and want to keep costs low on running software, want to know my options before I hand someone a bunch of money.

Spybot is great, I also use AdAware sometimes.

But Spybot catches most things.

Spybot sucked, IMO, really didn't do a **** thing althoough when I had it I had other protection as well.

I like the idea of this AVG... Gonna look at that.

you don't need an antivirus. evenif youre constantly going on **** sites and getting viruses hijack_this will let you delete the virii directly. of ycourse youd have to know which processes and dlls to kill.

Google "AOL Active Virus Shield".. It's Kaspersky relabeled and it's been working good for me.. Finds spyware too.. And free..

as far as i know AOL products are Mcafee
