so as long as the hu has a subwoofer control i can lower the bass on the inside speakers and raise the subwoofer? i want maybe a a +1 or 2 on the insides and like a +4 on the subwoofer

Pretty straight forward. Also you should utilize the HPF on the HU, then when you adjust the bass level or the eq only the proper freq's will be adjusted for sub and mid.

Don't forget, too, that some amps come with a remote gain control that you can mount in the driver's area, which will also allow you to bump the bass when you turn down the main volume.

you saying gain or boost control....cause you must be careful..
On my Fosgate 500.1 it comes with (what they call) remote bass. Now I'm not sure if it artificially amplifies the bass signal or it is more like a remote gain. Either way, there is more boom with the dial is turned up.

Two totally different things, bass knob and remote gain.

Bass knob is one that is simply a remote bass boost.

remote gain will control the gain. There are also 2 kinds of these. One will control the gain regardless of the setting on the amp, while the other will only go as high as the amp's setting.

It gets confusing.
