Quick impedence question

ok, so well ya my head unit is 4 ohm output and my amp is 4 ohm and its fine right now running my co-axial speakers...i just wanted to make sure i wouldnt have a problem running 6 ohm components with it......and apparentyl i wont...would there be any sound losses using 6ohm instead of 4 ohm with it?...clarity or distortion?...just gettin all the info i can, thanks alot those of you who replied...much appreciated

There should be no problems.

Usually the higher ohm you go, the less power the amp puts out.

Whatever the amp does at 4ohm RMS expect to only get about 1/2 of that at 6ohms

And I can tell you why really quick.

Power can be found using the formula P=IV. Where I=current and V=voltage

Both I and V can be substituted for another equation which contains R(resistance), but we will manipulate I since your voltage is usually pretty constant (around 13-14V)

Using ohms law, we can find out that I=V/R. Now you can see why an increase in resistance gives you less power. The end result is V^2/R.
