hope to get this a sticky. just a quick diagram to ponder.
useing a standard 12volt automotive 30/40 amp SPDT (single pole double throw) relay (found at radio shack, auto zone etc)
viewing the under side. take a look at the terminals sticking out. (in the pic below)
they are number as
#86: this is the + side of the relay, power source from the radio/etc.
#85 this is the - side. goes to ground
#30 this is usualy the power source that comes in from the battery
#87 this is what will go to your amps. this is linked to #30 only when the relay IS energized.
#87A this terminal is liked to #30 when the relay is NOT energized.
