Hi all, just joined the forum, mainly to pass along what turned out to be a quick and easy fix for my ground loop/alternator whine problem.

My issue occurred when charging a phone/MP3 player/bluetooth adapter while it was plugged into my HU's aux port. I'd read several complicated procedures for isolating and eliminating ground loop issues which might have been causing the obnoxious alternator whine I've been putting up with, but recently stumbled across a page recommending a PAC SNI-1/3.5 Noise Filter.

I ordered one of these gizmos from Crutchfield and when I plugged it in between my mp3 player & aux jack, my alternator whine completely disappeared! I'm not telling anyone not to exhaustively troubleshoot the underlying causes of ground loops or alternator noise if you have the inclination, but if, like me, someone lacks the motivation to do so and doesn't mind risking $20 (can be found cheaper, but Crutchfield has always taken great care of me), this guy is definitely worth a try.
