but the deck doesn't cut out? sounds more in your amps then the deck. do your lights dim?

my lights have always dimmed a little at night... but yes they do

You could have a sketchy alternator as perhaps at higher RPMs it doesn't produce any amperage. Go to autozone and have those things checks. I think they can do it for free.
