Question on sealed box

depends on you realley.

there is no need to have seperate chambers in a sealed box IF - both subs are exactly the same - AND - your running them mono.

you do need seperate chambers if :

you plan to use left and right channels to each sub for "stereo bass" lolz

your subs are diffrent degrees of play time on them - or if the subs are diffrent in any way at all

if you plan on blowing one of them up - then having seperate chambers will allow you to run just 1 sub

but you have to make shure that the seperate chambers are exactly alike. one is not allowed to be larger than the other.

Well they currently are both JL 12W3's. Same model and ohm.

I will be running them off a mono amp

I do not know the length of use though. Got them years ago on craigslist for $100 in a box, lol.

I will be selling them and getting SA 12's though. I want to hear some SA 12's in a sealed box. If they are horrible I might stick with JL's

BTW I built the box today, just ran out of wood for the front baffles.

Wanted to know about the sealed chamber before closing it up.

I must say, I do like the ease of building it sealed. The ported box I built took awhile, lol.

I went ahead and put in a separator. It actually added alot of support.

I had some cu ft to play with by adding it. Got all the bracing in, just need to get some more wood for the baffles then done.

Well...carpet etc

Ok made a noob mistake. While I was waiting for wood for the baffles I got impatient and glued and sealed the box.

Sanded it, and filled in all the screw holes.

Get the wood home today, and cut the baffle. Fits good. Cut the double baffle and it fits good.

I go to screw the first baffle in and ummmmm the screws do not line up. I had it turned around.

So now, I either have 3/4 inch of the second baffle hanging off the edge which will not work.

Or, my speakers are moved off center....which knowing me wont due.

So I ended up making a trim ring out of the second baffle. Didnt really need it anyway.

Then.....lol. I get everything for the baffle screwed in and glued. I go to seal it and realize....****. The caulk gun does not fit...sigh.

Wish I would of did the baffle, then sealed from the back. Then used the woofer holes to seal the bottom.....but oh well.

Got it done with my finger and a mirror. Will re-apply when it dries to make sure its good.

Ill get pics tomorrow for the hell of it. Simple sealed box, but hey....pics are pics!

Here are some pics...

Basic 2.5cu ft sealed box. Nothing fancy.

I painted it because I was going to do a trim ring...but decided on doing grill cloth on the ring instead.

Put the + - terminal bolts on. Drilled small and threaded them through.

It was fun grinding them off though

Just need to sand it all down real good and put the speakers in.

Going to leave it with no carpet, and just do panels to cover it so it will look stock in the trunk.

When I have the cash for the SA 12's I will look into another ported box, but this will get me by.

Ill make another box.

Probably will have to have someone design it though. I am not overly good with designing.

Need the ported box to have a wedge in the back to contour to the seats and give a little extra air space most likely.

Dont know though. It all depends on how much of my trunk I want to give up. And if this box will support the SA12's and sound good...might leave it.

Here is what I am putting it in...

For everybody that says run a common chamber i have to disagree with you. I have tried a few times with no luck , Ran CVR 12's , bumper pro 10's , MTX thunder 5000 10's , And a pair of the original kicker competition 10's (the 300 watt RMS ones with the big red and white K , not the crap of today). They all played much nicer in separate chambers , louder , smoother , and seemed to play deeper too. Same box size everytime , just added a divider in the center. So , IMO you should separate them.

Ported is fine in a common chamber though.

They are separated. 1.25 cu ft each woofer. 2.5 total.

My phone does not have a flash so its hard to take pics of the inside of the box.

I put several braces in there too. Little 6" wedges in a few spots. Like my box like a tank!

If you look closely you can see the filled in screw holes for the separator.
