Why do I hear people say they sound bad all the time? //content.invisioncic.com/y282845/emoticons/crazy.gif.c13912c32de98515d3142759a824dae7.gif I just read the latest copy of Car Audio and they had a Kicker L5 up against an Mbquart......Orion sub and a third sub I cant remember. Well, the kicker went deeper and lower with more authority than all of them. It didnt win, because it wasnt as balanced as the others, but overall they said it sounded pretty good and was the most powerful.

I had the L7 for a while and it took a little more work to get a more balanced sound so I guess I could agree with that but once I go it in the right box crossed over at the right spot is sounded good and got very loud and deep.

Going deeper and louder DOES NOT make it the most accurate //content.invisioncic.com/y282845/emoticons/wink.gif.608e3ea05f1a9f98611af0861652f8fb.gif The two are for the most part unrelated. I have a copy of that article aswell, and while I don't have it right in front me, IIRC they did mention that of the top 3 subs in that comparo (the Alumapro, MBQuart and Kicker), the Kicker was the most sloppy/muddy of the three (I don't remember how he worded it, but it was something to that effect).

People have a common misconception that the loudest or deepest sub is obviously the best sounding.......

Wrong! The sub with the biggest magnet is the best in most cases.

an alumapro against a kicker? lol its apples and oranges.

How so? In the end, the Alumapro, MB Quart and Kicker L5 were all within 1 point of each other, with no real "clear cut" winner. Just that the L5 was tilted slightly more towards output with the MB Quart and Alumapro tilted slightly more towards SQ. Overall, he ranked them very competitively and as decently close performers.

You can't look at magnet alone, noob //content.invisioncic.com/y282845/emoticons/rolleyes.gif.c1fef805e9d1464d377451cd5bc18bfb.gif You need to account for the width of the surround aswell. Wider surround, the better......DUH!

Thanks ...........you proved my point. I guess people just like to hate on a brand they dont care for. But, you seem to be neutral about things and give good clear explanantions, without bias.

SQ, unless in the lanes, are always subjective...history proves, a majority like a tad more bump than a flat SQ line...look at any band EQ and you'll see that. But SQ is very subjective...most just repeat over, and over, what their friends, uncles ,buddy said....

XBillion.............because I have read so many reviews from different magazine tests that say that Kickers sound good. But on the forums all I hear is that they dont have SQ.....hmmmmm, who am I gonna believe???? //content.invisioncic.com/y282845/emoticons/uhoh.gif.c07307dd22ee7e63e22fc8e9c614d1fd.gif

usually when people say that, I start with questions on enclosures...usually, that points me in the right direction //content.invisioncic.com/y282845/emoticons/smile.gif.1ebc41e1811405b213edfc4622c41e27.gif

X2. You can make an MBQuart sub sound muddy and unrefined in a poorly designed box. I have heard some L7's that sounded great and others that didn't. The install is EVERYTHING.

what would be a good box for the kickers then? L7's 12s? any desings
I cant give you exact dimensions, but lets just say PORTED. //content.invisioncic.com/y282845/emoticons/biggrin.gif.d71a5d36fcbab170f2364c9f2e3946cb.gif
