Hey guys,
I'm new the forum, clearly, but I hope you guys could help me out. I purchased a 2004 Pontiac Sunfire (buy as is) and it came with an after-market radio. When purchased the dealer even told me that whom ever installed the head-unit did it wrong, he just never cared to look.
Ever since I purchased the car I've had to eject the face of the head-unit to turn it off, in the fear of killing the battery.
So my belief is that they may have switched the 12V Constant and the 12V Accessory; Wiring Diagram below:
Car Radio Battery Constant 12v+ Wire: Orange
Car Radio Accessory Switched 12v+ Wire: Yellow
Car Radio Ground Wire: Black
Car Radio Illumination Wire: Gray
Car Stereo Dimmer Wire: Brown
Car Stereo Antenna Trigger Wire: Pink
Car Stereo Amp Trigger Wire: Pink
Car Stereo Amplifier Location: N/A
Car Audio Front Speakers Size: N/A
Car Audio Front Speakers Location: N/A
Left Front Speaker Positive Wire (+): Tan
Left Front Speaker Negative Wire (-): Gray
Right Front Speaker Positive Wire (+): Light Green
Right Front Speaker Negative Wire (-): Dark Green
Car Audio Rear Speakers Size: N/A
Car Audio Rear Speakers Location: N/A
Left Rear Speaker Positive Wire (+): Brown
Left Rear Speaker Negative Wire (-): Yellow
Right Rear Speaker Positive Wire (+): Dark Blue
Right Rear Speaker Negative Wire (-): Light Blue
So my question:
Could switching the 12V Constant and the 12V ***. cause this problem? The whole reason I'm asking is because I understand that the Constant is there to store data more than power the actual radio, and the 12V ***. is there to power the radio fully and it made me hesitant to start pulling out wires because I'm under the impression that it general would not work in this configuration, but my radio is working perfectly file...
Thank you in advanced.
