The sound quality of an FM transmitter is atrocious. Don't get one!

Here's what you need to connect any mp3 player to your 7977. You'll also need an RCA to headphone jack adapter. Then you can switch your head unit to aux, and plug your ipod into the headphone jack. It won't charge it, though.

no fm *****....sound quality sucks, and sometimes signal doesnt wanna come in clearly.

from what that site says, u have a "Versatile Link Ready", which means u can directly connect a mp3 player

Thanx for the answers. I wanna keep sound quality, so I don't think an FM transmitter is for me.

Would this compromise sound quality versus a tuner with the jack in it already? not sure since mine seems to have an AUX function on it I guess. Do most new head units change the MP3 player while playing? Since mine won't, how long do they last while playing? Can you get a cig. light charger while it's playing?

You could get one at radioshack, target, wal-mart, or partsexpress.com. They're not very hard to find. The adapter will retain all the sound quality that a dedicated headphone jack input would. A lot of newer CD players have ipod interfaces that allow you to not only charge the ipod, but control it directly from your ipod. The difference in sound quality is inaudible at best.

Most ipods last at least 10 hours on a full charge. And yes, you could use a cigarette lighter while playing.

First link is FUBAR, but I agree with the device in the second link. I would take the line outs at the bottom of the IPOD over the headphone jack any day of the week!
