question for those with tinnitus

I have a question for those of you who know they have it and what your symptoms are.

Do you hear the ringing while doing everyday activities?

The only time I really notice a ringing sound is when I get out of the shower. It is pretty loud if the house is dead silent. But if I dont think about it and go do something is seems to go away. But if I focus on the silence, I can sorta hear it again and it gets worse. Almost as if I am focusing on the noise itself.

If I am in a dead silent room I may hear a slight ringing. But again, its only if I focus on the fact that everything is quiet. I can fall asleep in a quiet room pretty easily. I just dont like dead silence though so I usually turn on a fan.

Curious with those who indeed for sure have it what you notice.

What causes tinnitus?

Tinnitus can arise in any of the following areas: the outer ear, the middle ear, the inner ear, or by abnormailities in the brain. Some tinnitus or head noise is normal. If one goes into a sound proof booth and normal outside noise is diminished, one becomes aware of these normal sounds. We are usually not aware of these normal body sounds, because outside noise masks them. Anything, such as wax or a foreign body in the external ear, that blocks these background sounds will cause us to be more aware of our own head sounds. Fluid, infection, or disease of the middle ear bones or ear drum (tympanic membrane) can also cause tinnitus.

One of the most common causes of tinnitus is damage to the microscopic endings of the hearing nerve in the inner ear. Advancing age is generally accompanied by a certain amount of hearing nerve impairment, and consequently tinnitus. Today, loud noise exposure is a very common cause of tinnitus, and it often damages hearing as well. Unfortunately, many people are unconcerned about the harmful effects of excessively loud noise, firearms, and high intensity music. Some medications (for example, aspirin) and other diseases of the inner ear (Meniere's syndrome) can cause tinnitus. Tinnitus can in very rare situations be a symptom of such serious problems as an aneurysm or a brain tumor (acoustic tumor).

Do you take a lot of pain killers? particularly aspirin?

Lol, A few weeks ago I was sick as hell, (tonsil infection) and was jacked up on all sorts of good shit, went to the ER and got some Morphine, then something stronger, then some more from a script..

Anyway, When I was on that stuff, I had a constant humming noise in my ears, And when I squinted my eyes, It was loud as hell.

Funny you mention pain meds and tinnitus are related, I acually googled it cause it was so wierd when I was having it and stumbled apon that ailment...

Yeah its weird. I seem to always have it at night.

I have my IEM's on right now ith no music, kinda act as ear plugs. I dont hear anything. Just silence.

I get that every now and then, ive always had it since i was little. I think i may have hearing problems, not particularly all from subs or anything either. I get the ringing when the room is dead silent, so i always leave a fan or something on, plus my heat vent makes this annoying ticking sound every 10 seconds, been doing it for years youd figure itd be done ticking.

Thats just your retardation that you hear

I get a ringing occasionally, but only for a few minutes. I think it's related to my severe ear infections I had when I was 1-2 years old since I'm also unable to clear my ears on a plane easily, or have my head underwater more than 3-4 feet deep because the pressure on my ears makes them hurt.
