Question about the 7200 mkII 8v outputs and if they will be too much.

I currently have a Rockford Fosgate power 1000 5 channel amp powering my system. In the owner manual, it says that the maximum input voltage that this amp accepts is 4v. Now i currently have a jensen vm9200hdn which supposedly has 4v preouts but I have to turn the gain up somewhat. I am thinking though that the 8v outputs of the eclipse will be too much and even with the gain turned all the way down on the amp, I will still have too much volume even when the head unit volume is very low. Do you think this will work because I need a new head unit and would love the eclipse. Thanks

Just turn the gain all the way down and just turn the radio up as loud as you need it to go...you'll still get full power out of the amp, you just won't have to turn the volume up as loud to get to that desired volume.

I understand that but I am concerned that even with the gain totally down on the amp, it will still be too much output from the headunit at low volumes as the amp is only capable of accepting 4 volts max.

You'll know when you're pushing the amp too hard. You'll start clipping the signal and your speakers will sound like ***. You should still be able to turn the radio up to at least half way without any issues. I have an 8053(8V outputs as well), and am running amps that say they can only accept 6V at the highest. I can turn the radio up to 60-65(out of 80, where it does the full 8V) on normal recordings before it just flat out gets too loud for my tastes.

On Pink Floyd's Dark Side of the Moon, which is recorded at a lower level than any other cd I have, I can crank it to 70-72 and still have the signal sound flawless.

Ok I see what you are saying. Basically, I will never be able to have a linear increase in sound all the way up to volume 80 on the hu even with the gains on the amp at their absolute lowest. I bet my speakers will start clipping at 40 on the volume lol because my amp can only accept up to 4v. Do you think it would be wiser to just go with one of the pioneers that have 5v pre outs as the gains on the amp will have to be all the way down anyways?

Your worrying about it too much i don't think you'll have much problem with it. I am betting you will be able to use at least 75% of your volume with the gain all the way down.

Volume dial discipline. Turn it as loud as you need to to fully appreciate it and no further. Where people get into trouble is when they're already tuned at or close to the limit they get curious to see what a max volume burst sounds like. In normal listening you rarely get close to that 8 volts. If you never crank it all the way you might never see it.
