Question about L7s and Box Setup

So had a quick question for you guys

I work for bestbuy, and as such i get redicilious discounts on electronics.. I can get a brand new Kicker L7 15" for $130 brand new 2010 model with warranty.. So im looking to put together a little daily driver system

I drive a trailblazer(SUV) and am going to be running one 15" Kicker L7 and throw around 1000 - 1200 Watts RMS at it, my question now is on the box... I have a box maker whos recommended that i go with something around 4.5 Cft with a big, high flowing slot port to maximize the SPL with what I have to work with.

My question is on the box tuning, I have two ideas in mind... I can either tune it to 38hz and maximize the SPL while still being DD friendly.. Or I can tune it to 32 hz and be low end / super DD which is fine because ill never be competing with it anyway, its just a DD setup for me

However i beleive that the L7 isent known to have good excursion / low end extension... So is tuning it to 32 hz even beneficial for me?? Will a L7 even be loud down that low anyway? Or should I forget it and aim for the 38hz goal?

I dont plan to drive around playing Soul Survivor at max volume everyday, but if the L7 can actually get that low Ide pobobly prefer a 32 hz setup for more musicality and range.

If it cant go down low thats fine... ill just maximize what it CAN do and tune around 38hz.. im sure then itd really be slamming notes that it CAN hit hard

I don't think it will sound good that way. Kicker says you can up to a 6 cubic foot enclosure, going from 3 cubes to 6 cubes the power handling doesn't change, so I'd go with a larger box.

Yeah? Ive never heard an L7 in person.. However my old system (15" Fully Loaded Fi BTL on 3500W RMS in an External Aeroport Box tuned to 38hz) Didnt sound THAT bad DD

I would agree however 98% of the music thats played the "low bass notes" are actually 40hz and higher.. so peaking at that is going to make actual music louder versus 30hz test tones
Not the music I listen to. Anyways if you tune to 38 hz your peak is going to be higher than 38 //content.invisioncic.com/y282845/emoticons/fyi.gif.9f1f679348da7204ce960cfc74bca8e0.gif.

My system tuned to 30 hz peaked at 41 hz //content.invisioncic.com/y282845/emoticons/wink.gif.608e3ea05f1a9f98611af0861652f8fb.gif

Yeah, my old system tuned @ 38hz peaked @ 44hz as shown in my sig... I beleive these trucks in particular generally like to peak around 50

tuned to 27 peaked at 38
Any sub built in a correctly built low tuned will play lower then high tunes.

Especially the pups.. careful though
Be careful, the pups tuned low cause tectonic plate movement //content.invisioncic.com/y282845/emoticons/fyi.gif.9f1f679348da7204ce960cfc74bca8e0.gif
