Question about gains

My speakers are rated at 100 watts RMS. My amp is rated at 80 watts RMS per channel. Is it ok to assume that I can turn my gains almost all the way up (not that I have or even would) and not cause any problems with the speakers? Just a random thought I had today while sleeping through my Finance 3323 class. //content.invisioncic.com/y282845/emoticons/boring.gif.42c69fa49b1e73e6332d62b462a2a4b3.gif

um, gains are not output control, you are attempting to match the output voltage to the input voltage of the amp required to achieve an output on the amp with an unclipped signal.

Turning the gain all the up just because your amp has 100w output is not going to make them have usable higher output.

As for the problem with more amp power than speaker power, not a problem at all because music is dynamic and in most cases the 100w output will not be constant and thus will be no problem for the speakers to handle in these short bursts.

LOL - mine was a higher end model too - iirc deh-9300. Low mileage too, it was sitting around for year collecting dust.

One or two, they are still subwoofer outs and are mono summed signals from both left and right. Even the 2 RCA subwoofer pre-outs on the 2nd one...
