Question about gain setting calculation

When doing the calculation to set the gain do you use the RMS wattage of the subwoofer or the actual wattage you will be feeding the sub? My sub is rated at 250w RMS, but I will be giving it 400. I'm assuming you do it with the 250, but just want to be sure.

I would think you would do it for the 250 watts b/c you don't want to overpower your subwoofer.

What sub? How big is the enclosure?

12 inch ID v3. Enclosure is approximately .95 cubic feet.

For that sub, I'd say stick with the 250w.
