i have a standard cab truck, and i want to go full 3 way active with a dedicated 8" midbass from say 60hz-300hz, what would be the problem with mounting them behind the seats on either side of the sub box...

like this

[midbass][........sub........][midbass]

obviously seperate enclosures... at what point does bass become directional, in other words at what frequency will i be able to tell "hey thats coming from behind me and it should be in front of me"

basically any whre that is forward of your seating position. as the freq. get higher the sound is more directional. I have seen them installed infont of the bottom of the seat and work well, I have mine in my doors then the mids in the kicks. it works well also

well my other option i was thinking was midbass in the kicks midrange/tweets in doors/sail panel.

i would just much rather work with MDF than fiberglass, i can make fiberglass kicks i did it for my mustang, i just don't want to do it again.

and i don't want to put midrange in the kicks because i have a deep dash and highs seats, i experimented with a set of 4in coaxials in a temptorary setup in the kicks and vocals were very directional and sounded like they were coming from the floor regardless or how i aimed them, because the bench in the truck twice as high off the floor as seats in a car.

if running active it shouldn't be a problem...just keep the door set on the front...and...run the mid bass basically like rear fill...and then run your sub ...it should balance out nicely....
I have to disagree with you here, I think if you do that you will end up excentuating the fact that the subs are in the rear. It would be better for him to use a good mid that will dig deep maybe to 100hz and keep it a 2way system if fitting a midbass is going to be a problem

disagree with you there crx. i've tried running a system like that once and i had no midbass response up front just from the rear.

agree with u there kman

is putting the midbass in the kickpanels a bad idea?

i don't want to put them in the doors because i don't want to have to put 5 layers of deadener to seal the doors, i plan on using a fairly heavy midbass, peerless sls or tang band W6, something that is truly a dedicated midbass, and i want to put them in true sealed enclosures. so the kickpanel seams like the best idea.

otherwise im just going to run id oem 6.5 and the seas neo tweets in a 2 way
