Question about box for DD512

Hey I was wondering if anyone had first hand experience with this woofer and knew what cuft, kind of port used, port area or number of ports, and tuning frequency that got the best results from this woofer. Also how do you think it would take 1000 clean watts at 4 ohms?

well sir, i myself own a pair of 512s, and have tried them in two separate and different boxes.

ive found that they like larger port area meaning (14+ sq.in. of port/cu.ft.) and also they fit the stereotype of how they like bigger boxes. But in there defense, in my experience most subs do perform better in a larger box.

im using a 3.8cube box with 60sq.in of port..so im using 15.75sq.in/cube for port size...

on your question of power handling, like any other DD woof id say they can handle Over RMS pretty well and i think that 600w RMS on one would be perfectly fine, i think that the thermal limits might be being pushed a little too far with 1000watts. on the other hand pretty much any sub can withstand 300% of there rating if properly tuned with gains and bass boost down in the correct box. so its really up to you on how much you wanna test the limits of DD engineering. -mj
