Hi Im new to this forum. I have a 1997 Chevy Cargo van with two seperate amps

RockFord Fosgate 600 watt

MTX 4 channel 400 watt

Fosgate Box two P1 12 inch subs

Alpine Deck

I want to be able to listen too system with engine off with out draining battery

What do I need to do? Right now my main battery cant handle this alone. Be advised this is a new battery FYI

Also How long will it last if I add second battery?

get an isolator and a deep cycle optima yellow, blue top, kinetik 2000 or 2400 or look into oddyssey 1700's. just depends on the reserve you want and how much you are willing to spend. im partial so ill just say this lol. all of these have benifits over non sealed batteries. low esr and are more "charging" friendly. the later 2 "brands" imo are better but they also cost more.

Alot of the Pickup/Vans have an option to get a battery tray (for ambulances, tow trucks, diesels, stuff like that). If your battery is on the way out, I would get two of the same batteries and put both under the hood with an solenoid/relay to isolate them (wire it so when you power the car off, the car stereo runs off the secondary battery.

if you kill your batteries completely they wont give the isolator enough power to click over to the other battery. i use a manual perko switch that is designed for marine applications. in my boat i have roughly a 2000-2200 watt system. i have one battery just for the boat in case i kill the other ones completely, and i have two just for the system. i have the biggest delco deep cycles you can get. for 5-6 hours i can lay on the two batteries just for the system, and then i can jump in my boat and start it up on the same two batteries that were playing the whole time. 90% of the time i dont even have to use the main battery. when i get home i plug the 6 foot pig tail of my hardwired 3 stage charging system, and i am good to go the next day. i dont know how many times i have been stranded because of a stupid *** isolator.

*you are giong to have to charge the auxillary battery though. the alternator isnt going to do enough for it to completely charge for the next time you want to use that battery, unless you drive it for a few days in between hard uses.
