Question about alternator voltage

Is the voltage my alternator puts out regulated by an onboard computer? In other words, if my alternator is in good condition, and it charges around 13.7 volts is that as high as my vehicle will allow? I am trying to figure out if a hi output alternator would put out a higher voltage. I am thinking it won't, but I wanted to make sure.

as far as I understand, an alternator is set to output a certain voltage, depending on the alt and the application. If you have an externaly regulated alt though you would have make sure it wasn't putting out too high of voltage.
